(CNN) -- For the first time in two decades, Steely Dan has released a studio album featuring all new songs. "Two Against Nature" may be considered a comeback album for core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, but it's not like they ever truly left the music scene.
After releasing "Gaucho" in 1980, the jazz-rock duo went on to collaborate on several solo albums, including Fagen's "The Nightfly" (1982) and Becker's "11 Tracks of Whack" (1994). They also produced music for other artists and performed live concerts.
But "Two Against Nature," they say, represents their best work.
"...'Two Against Nature' really buries all the others," Fagen says. "If you really want to get a sense of what we're about, it's really all contained in this CD."
"Probably the best thing to do would be (to) take all the old Steely Dan albums, throw them away, get the new one, absorb it, then buy all the old ones again," Becker adds jokingly. "Re-experience them in the context of the new one."
CNN WorldBeat Correspondent Brooke Alexander sat down with Fagen and Becker to talk about the release.
