SHIMPLING, England -- German supermodel Claudia Schiffer was booed by fans as she arrived at the church to marry British film producer Matthew Vaughn.

Schiffer, 31, defied the photographers outside the 14th century St George's Church in Shimpling, eastern England, by covering herself with blankets.

"We were all so disappointed and disgusted," said fan Janet Damant, one of several hundred people who waited at the church to catch a glimpse of the silk wedding dress.

"When she came out all covered up like that and swept past us, everyone just booed. All we wanted was a smile and to wish her well but we didn't even get a glimpse," she told Reuters.

The bride arrived in a Bentley but was taken into the church by a back door. Guests included German tennis player Boris Becker, who said the wedding was "very beautiful," and Madonna's film director husband Guy Ritchie.

Vaughn was best man at Madonna and Ritchie's wedding two years ago and produced Ritchie's hit film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."

After the service, the Rev. Ian Friars, the church's rector, said: "With Matthew and Claudia's agreement, I can confirm that they married at St. George's Church this afternoon.

"The service was according to the rites of the Church of England. ... It was a service that reflected the couple's faith and commitment to each other."

Schiffer and Vaughn recently bought Coldham Hall, a £5 million Elizabethan mansion near the village, where they were expected to hold their reception.

Details of the wedding have been shrouded in secrecy. "It is a private wedding," said a spokesman for the supermodel.

Schiffer is said to have fallen for Vaughn after he gave her a tortoise as a present.
