Marines to get new camouflage uniformsWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Marines soon will be sporting a different look -- with new camouflage uniforms. The uniforms, to be introduced January 17 at Camp Pendleton, California, are made from an easy-care fabric with a print of small squares in camouflage colors such as greens and browns. The Marine Corps emblem decorates some of the squares. Among the uniforms' other features are shoulder pockets and no-snag, button cuffs on the sleeves. One quarter of the 170,000 active-duty Marines chose the design from three options, said Brig. Gen. Andrew Davis. The project to develop a more durable, wrinkle-free uniform cost $500,000, he said. In another change, the Marines will launch a $2 million advertising campaign next month. -- From CNN's Cleve Mesidor |
