Direct-mail company doubles contribution to anthrax reward

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A direct-mail marketing company that donated to the reward fund being offered in the investigation of anthrax-laced letters has doubled its contribution. The increase is in line with an expected doubling of the amount put up by the FBI and the U.S. Postal Service, the company said Wednesday.

ADVO Inc. is boosting its contribution to $500,000, said company spokesman Doug Bailey.

A government official said Tuesday that the reward would be doubled to $2.5 million from $1.25 million.

That total would include the ADVO money, Bailey said.

The official had said an announcement could come as early as Wednesday, but FBI spokeswoman Sherri Evanina said Wednesday there is "no official word that the reward has been increased yet."

She said details on an increase in the reward money are being worked out and she expects the move to be announced in Trenton, New Jersey, sometime next week.
