Bomb squad finds blooms, not boomsMIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- An artillery shell and a small missile sparked a call to a bomb squad Thursday after they were found aboard a ship at the Port of Miami. But closer inspection revealed the devices, though dangerous in their previous lives, had been reincarnated as harmless flower pots. Customs officials called in the Miami-Dade County bomb squad when they found the devices during a routine inspection of an Israeli cargo ship that was carrying the personal belongings of people who were moving from Israel to the Bahamas. The bomb squad found that the devices -- a spent 155 mm artillery shell casing and part of an exploded test missile -- had been cleaned out by the owner and turned into flower pots. Officials said both items are legal and perfectly harmless, and no charges will be filed. The ship will be allowed to continue its trip. Police closed the port while the investigation was under way. |
