Japan production misses forecast
TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Japan's industrial production rose 0.8 percent in October from a month earlier on a seasonally adjusted basis, preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) shows.
The figures, released Friday, were worse than the median forecast of a 1.9 percent rise in a Reuters survey of 27 economists last week.
METI forecast that manufacturers' output -- a key component and close proxy of industrial production -- would rise 3.1 percent in November before falling 0.9 percent in December.
After raising its view last month, the ministry kept its assessment of industrial output unchanged, saying it was recovering but that demand was uncertain.
