Chi takes WBC featherweight title
MANCHESTER, England -- South Korean Injin Chi was crowned WBC world featherweight champion when he knocked out England's Malcolm Brodie in Manchester.
The Korean had Brodie under pressure throughout the bout and finished the job when a left uppercut sent Brodie crashing to the canvas after two minutes and 48 seconds of the seventh round.
The fight was a rematch of their first meeting last year, voted fight of the year, when Chi was declared the winner before a draw was controversially called because of a mistake in the scoring.
Chi was never in trouble this time and had Brodie on the floor with a right after just a minute of the first round before the Englishman had a point deducted for a clash of heads in the fourth.
That paved the way for the tough Korean to finish it off in the seventh.
"I tried boxing him, but he caught me with a good upper cut," Brodie said.
"He is a tough and good fighter. I have never ducked anyone and I never will.
"I thought this time I was going to do it. I am disappointed for the fans, but he was better on the night."
