Davydenko through to Munich final
MUNICH, Germany -- Russian Nikolay Davydenko reached his first final in nearly a year with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Peru's Luis Horna in the BMW Open in Munich.
The unseeded Davydenko, ranked 60th in the world, followed last week's unexpected quarter-final showing on clay at the Monte Carlo Masters.
He played his last final at St Poelten, Austria, last May.
The Russian, with both of his career trophies claimed last season at Estoril and Adelaide, had to contend with cold and heavy conditions after a week of sun at the Iphitos club.
Davydenko is rapidly putting his poor start to the season well behind him after losing six times in the first round heading into Monte Carlo.
The 22-year-old will play the winner of the second semi between fourth-seeded French Open finalist Martin Verkerk and Belgian Olivier Rochus.
"I never dreamed of reaching the final," said Davydenko, who might not have much use were he to win the BMW cabriolet car on offer to Sunday's champion. "I already have a BMW," he admitted.
"I got off to a bad start this season. Horna is no big name, but he plays well on the clay, he was tough to beat."
