Rome derby match is put back again
ROME, Italy -- The prefect of Rome has over-ruled an Italian Football League decision to replay the derby match between Lazio and Roma on April 14.
The Rome derby was abandoned on March 21 due to crowd trouble.
The prefect said it is now up to Italian football authorities and the two clubs to find another date for the game.
Italian media had reported that authorities wanted a full check on security at the capital's Olympic stadium before going ahead with the fixture.
Trouble at the March derby was sparked by a false rumor that a young boy had been killed by a police car outside the stadium.
There were violent clashes between fans and police outside the ground after the match had been abandoned.
Roma are second in Serie A, nine points behind leaders AC Milan while Lazio are fourth in the table.
