(Skiing Magazine) -- Aspen's longest running freestyle competition has received a facelift. Freestyle Fridays recently changed to a Friday Big Air competition, which kicked off December 28, 2003. The event will continue every Friday during February and March 2004.

Friday Big Air will take place in Snowmass, on Fanny Hill, a change from the previous Freestyle Fridays at Aspen Highlands. Spectators will witness a variety of high-flying antics displayed by the best new school park-hounds in the area.

For a $20 entry fee, competitors will compete for cash, with winners taking home $75 for third place, $150 for second place and a cool $300 for first place. Not bad for a day spent chucking yourself through the air.

Competitors wishing to flaunt their big air skills are advised to get there early. Registration takes place on the day of the event between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Fanny Hill at the base of the jump. Competitors are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and the field is limited to 20 skiers and 20 snowboarders. The competition is open to pros and/or amateurs of all ages.

For those who do not opt to defy gravity, Big Air Fridays is a great event to enjoy while soaking in the sun. As if witnessing the incredibly talented competitors wasn't enough, local retailers offer a number of special discounts associated with the event. So this February and March, head down to Snowmass for the fresh mountain air, whether you're breathing it in or flying through it on your boards.
