WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Ba Le Meat Processing and Wholesale, Inc. of Chicago is voluntarily recalling 2,600 pounds of headcheese that may be contaminated with listeria bacteria.

The USDA said one to one and a half pound as well as eight pound packages of "Ba Le Gio Thu" headcheese. Headcheese is a seasoned loaf made of the head meat of a calf or pig in its natural aspic.

The packages being recalled have the number "EST 18442" in the USDA inspection mark.

The product was produced between Jan. 7 and Feb. 5 and distributed to Asian specialty stores in the following areas: Philadelphia; New York; Chicago; Houston; Austin, Texas; Garland, Texas; Rochester, Minnesota; Raleigh, North Carolina; Oakland, California; Tampa, Florida; Orlando, Florida; Coral Springs, Florida; Silver Spring, Maryland; Dorchester, Massachussetts; and Doraville, Georgia.

The USDA said consumers who bought the product should not eat it and should return it to the point of purchase.

Eating meat contaminated with listeria bacteria can lead to listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease, the USDA said.
