HOLLYWOOD, California (CNN) -- Magazines, music and movies
offer a version of love that is hard to find. That is the
theory behind "The Mirror Has Two Faces." It's also a belief
held by the film's star and director
Barbra Streisand.

"It happened to me as a teenager," says Streisand. "I had
that absolute experience of going to the movies and getting
involved with the love relationships, and the music always
played when they kissed, and I remember thinking that when I
was in my 20's I kissed this guy, and there's no music, so
what does this mean?"
A fair amount of kissing has been conducted while listening
to Streisand's music through the years, even though she
rarely got the guy in the movie.
Streisand has mostly good reviews for her songs and movies
over the years.
She once disliked the song "People," from "Funny Girl."
"I remember my first argument with Jule Styne and Bob Merrill
saying, 'Isn't it people who don't need people are the
luckiest people in the world?' And then I remember, I can't
wait to end this show 'funny girl' after 1000 performances,
or whatever it was, and I was marking them off on a calendar.
And as I was standing on the steps singing "People" for the
last time I broke down and started to cry, and almost
couldn't regain my composure. That kind of emotional
attachment to a piece of work just totally surprised me."
Streisand later won best actress for the movie "Funny Girl."
"Evergreen" from "A Star is Born," brought Streisand her
second Oscar.
On "The Way We Were" her movie with Robert Redford, she says,
"I had a wonderful time making that movie."
Streisand is also pleased with her current movie.
"I love happy endings," she says, revealing how the movie
concludes. "I wanted to make a movie with a happy ending,
I've made so many with sad endings I thought it was time to
change the tune.
"I think there's much more value in romantic love, and I
think it can sustain if you have the right partner," she
says.
Asked if she's found the right partner, Streisand blushes at
the reference to her current beau actor James Brolin.
"When you find someone it's simple," she says. "difficult
getting there, but simple when it's there."
