Grammy Web page leaks nominees

(CNN)--Although the nominees for the music industry's Grammy
Awards were not scheduled to be announced until 8:40 a.m. EST
Tuesday, Web surfers got a sneak peek at what appeared to be
the official list of nominees.
Overnight Monday, The National Academy of Recording Arts and
Sciences' home page featured a story headlined "NARAS
announces nominees for 39th Annual Grammy Awards." According
to that
article, producer, songwriter and recording artist Kenneth
"Babyface" Edmonds tied the record for nominations in one
year with 12. Those nominations include Record, Album and
Song of
the Year.
The news release about the nominations was taken off the
NARAS site early Tuesday morning.
According to the release, the following artists were also
nominated in the following categories:
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
- "Odelay"-- Beck
- "Falling into You"-- Celine Dion
- "The Score"-- Fugees
- "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"-- The Smashing Pumpkins
- "Waiting to Exhale"--Soundtrack
RECORD OF THE YEAR
- "Give Me One Reason"--Tracy Chapman
- "Change The World"--Eric Clapton
- "Because You Loved Me"--Celine Dion
- "Ironic"--Alanis Morissette
- "1979"--Smashing Pumpkins
BEST NEW ARTIST
- Garbage
- Jewel
- No Doubt
- Tony Rich Project
- LeAnn Rimes
The story reported that in addition to Babyface, other
artists with four or more nominations included Smashing
Pumpkins (7 nominations), Tracy Chapman (5), Vince Gill (5),
Eric Clapton, Celine Dion, David Foster, Tony Rich and Pierre
Boulez with four nominations each.
Web users will find out if the page posted early on the site
contained the actual nominees for this year's awards after
the official announcement Tuesday morning.
