Badu to the rescue
CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA (CNN) -- Singer Erykah Badu is expected to fill in for Natalie Cole at the St. Lucia Jazzfest. Cole canceled her appearance after doctors warned her to rest her damaged vocal cords for at least a week, following a series of performances in Las Vegas.
The daughter of the late Nat King Cole was supposed to have kicked off Saturday night's festivities. She won't be the only performer missing in action. Ray Charles, Lionel Richie, Patti LaBelle and Deborah Cox also are unable to make it.
But Kool and the Gang, David Sanborn and Nestor Torres still are on the schedule.

Reeve says video creates false impression
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Christopher Reeve is denying reports he can walk. Footage shot by a Southern California cable television outlet and shared with other media, shows him appearing to move his legs on a treadmill. But Reeve says the way it was edited gives a mistaken impression he's ambulatory.
He says the video shows him participating in cutting-edge therapy meant to regenerate his nerve functions. "Wearing a parachute harness and suspended by overhead cables, I stand on a treadmill. When it's put into motion, energy and memory, which remain in the spinal cord, allow me to walk at speeds of up to four miles an hour."
Reeve says he still is paralyzed from the rib cage down. The stage and screen actor damaged his spinal cord when he was thrown from a horse in 1995.

Rosie at the Tonys, briefly
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Rosie O'Donnell may have been too busy to host the Tony Awards, but she's managing to squeeze in a guest appearance.
The talk-show host was emcee for the past two years and is credited with improving the Tony show's ratings. This year, viewers can expect to see several host-presenters -- among them Julie Andrews, Carol Burnett and Kevin Spacey.
The ceremonies are scheduled to be televised live on CBS, June 6.

Means to you, the Force, what does it? Mmmmm?

The Force as defined by the stars
(CNN) -- The premiere of "Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace" has renewed the debate over a key line in the "Star Wars" series. What does "May the Force be with you" mean? Here's what some of the stars told USA Weekend:
Wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin: "It's that invisible outer-space-type hokey-pokey stuff that sounds good, so that's why they're saying it. Kind of like a way to say, "Good luck.'"
Same to you, Stone Cold.
Film critic Roger Ebert: "It's a place-holder for a more evolved philosophical statement that will emerge if and when Thoreau is reincarnated and directs a movie."
Is that a thumbs-up or -down?
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actress Sarah Michelle Gellar: "It makes me think of Princess Leia, who I loved. And I had one of those lightsaber things."
Sarah. That's your wooden stake.
Musician Julian Lennon, son of the late Beatle John Lennon: "The Force is your inner strength. It's what guides you."
May it be with you, Julian.
