Layers of color - Spring is bright for Klein
November 3, 1998Web posted at: 10:51 p.m. EDT (0251 GMT) NEW YORK (CNN) -- For spring/summer '99, New York designer Calvin Klein takes to color as never before. He does blues, greens, yellows and reds in ultra-light fabrics that float down the runway. However, Klein says his favorite neutrals still fit the season. He uses off-whites and shades of beige or ecru for easy suits, some with low-waisted pants, others with loose skirts.
Also included -- buttery-soft zippered leather jackets and super-sexy body-hugging knits. Klein says it's a collection he considers cutting edge. "There's a lot of color in the collection, especially when we get to evening and we get to easy, soft pieces" he says. "There's a lot of layering of unexpected colors and at times they're really bright and fun." Shapes are small, narrow and lean or loose and easy but "always sexy." "When the shapes are big, the fabrics are soft and so you always sense the body when someone's moving," Klein says. There are two types of jackets including one that is lean and narrow with shoulder pads and another Klein calls "the new jacket," constructed like a shirt with no shoulders. "It's almost constructed like a shirt, but really serves as a jackets to be worn over a T-shirt with a matching pant or a skirt," he says. Klein's skirt lengths are varied, and he says pants can be either slim or wide and full. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
