Wedding walk -- extravagant volume is Yamamoto for spring
From Style Correspondent Elsa Klensch (CNN) -- Yohji Yamamoto's spring/summer show surprised and delighted the audience so much it ended in a standing ovation. The designer dressed his models as brides that performed stripteases. Yamamoto, who has always loved theatrics, has been working to give an haute couture message for the seasons. It's a message that puts emphasis on luxurious, refined, made-to-order clothes. "This time I thought that this collection should be kind of the final message for haute couture," Yamamoto said. "So I chose this idea because for people's real lives, the wedding is a very, very special, sometimes ceremonial moment.
"In this case, they can be allowed to wear a kind of costume for reality. This is a very unique occasion for ordinary people, so I wanted to play with costume and clothes." Play he does. His models, both men and women, exchange pieces of clothing. Yamamoto designs hoop skirts with pockets so his brides can carry their shoes, gloves and whatever else they need. "I wanted to see something very exciting and progressive -- sometimes extravagant volume or something," he says. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
