Campground chic - Kors is green and sporty for spring
January 31, 1999 From Style Correspondent Elsa Klensch NEW YORK (CNN) -- The casual, relaxed, laid-back, lived-in looks born and bred in America are the lifeblood of the spring/summer collection from designer Michael Kors. Kors says after seasons of somber color, his new take is upbeat and vibrant -- touched with a wet look. "I think for me this season in New York was something very American, very, very sporty and all those iconic American things that you do in the summer like sailing, camping and even things like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts," he says. "When you think about it, you sort of want to keep your hair sort of soft and tossled and off your face, and I like the idea of just wet hair accents." The designer says this spring's clothes have color, including green. "We don't want to wear black every day, but we don't want head-to-toe color every day either," Kors says. "Green can sort of do both and I think that's what's great about it." His collection includes no tailored blazers, but rather soft windbreakers or anoraks -- "Something that you literally could throw on with a pair of jeans if you wanted to," Kors says.
