NEW YORK (CNN) -- Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates asserted in a videotaped deposition Monday that he had no memory or direct knowledge of a series of e-mail messages and meetings that government prosecutors claim are evidence of Microsoft's illegal business practices.

The videotaped excerpts focus on episodes with three major Microsoft rivals: Sun, Apple and Netscape, and Microsoft's alleged efforts to bully them into submission to Gates' master plan for his industry-dominant Windows operating system.
