CNN 20: The Super Bowl Experience, the Fans

Aired January 27, 2000 - 10:27 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: As our observation of CNN's 20th anniversary continues and Super Bowl XXXIV is right around the corner, a look back now at the wild times and wild fans the big game inspires.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Here we go all the way Broncos, all the way!!

FRED HICKMAN, SPORTS ANCHOR: Well, you've got two different kinds of fans that show up at the Super Bowl. You have the corporate fans, representing such and such corporation, and they're just kind of, you know -- they have a nice golf shirt, sports jacket. You can tell them a mile off, you know. So they come in and they're OK. And then you have the just whacked-out local fan, you know. If you're blessed enough to have your team play in your city, which is very, very rare, you know, that's even crazier, but they just let it all hang out, you know. And -- but you can clearly tell the difference between fans.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The Bills are going to win by a lot, a lot! Two touchdowns! Go, go, go!

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If they win, I'll probably...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Eat crow.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ... have to eat crows.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don't want to hear another cheer.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You go down like this, down like this, out like this and then you go...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It really stinks.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We're going to go back for five, definitely.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We've got to keep hoping, eh? We have to...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's all over.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: ... keep -- we have to hope. (CHEERING)

HICKMAN: The Super Bowl experience is one everybody might have. If you're a football fan at all, it's terrific.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: All the way, Broncos, all the way, baby!
