Aired February 24, 2000 - 10:08 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: First, we take a look back at the engagement of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in our "CNN 20" segment.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRINCE CHARLES: Just delighted and happy. I am amazed that she's even brave enough to take me on.

(LAUGHTER)

QUESTION: And I suppose in love.

LADY DIANA SPENCER: Of course.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Nearly 10 years of speculation about Prince Charles' bride are over, and the man who said about 30 would be a good age to marry has fulfilled his own prediction.

QUESTION: Has it been a strain trying to carry out a courtship without anyone knowing?

SPENCER: Yes, it has, but I think anyone in the position we've been would feel pressure and everything, but it's been worthwhile, every bit of it.

QUESTION: What do you think of the news of their engagement?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it's very good, very good.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think he should get engaged, because he's getting older.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Wonderful. Perfect. Couldn't be better.

QUESTION: Why are you so pleased?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Because I think she's just the right person for him.

QUESTION: You've just come from the palace. What happened this morning and how do you feel now? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Very happy for Diana, very happy. Very exiting. Very proud. Very happy.

QUESTION: It's a tremendous change for someone almost 19 to make all of a sudden, the transition.

SPENCER: It is, but I've had a small run-up to it at all in the last six months, and I expect Prince Charles and I can't go wrong if he's there with me.
