| Morning NewsCNN 20: Jeff Barron Remembers the Early Days of CNNAired May 15, 2000 - 10:29 a.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: First "CNN 20": Today we look back at the evolution of our network here at CNN. ANNOUNCER: Bringing you the world for 20 years, this is CNN. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) JEFF BARRON, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I started here on the 1st of June in 1980, the first day we were on the air, and I was recruited to do "MONEYLINE." And I did that show for nine years before I moved up to operations manager at the New York bureau. And it was interesting times those first few years of our being on the air, where we went from minimal resources but still doing a lot of good work to being respected -- I guess the Gulf War was the turning point -- but to having the respect of the viewing as well as the broadcast and journalistic communities. We've grown in size, we've grown in stature, we've grown in respectability, we've grown in just about any way you could imagine. And it was certainly beyond my imagination in 1980 that this is what it would turn out to have been. I think, certainly, we're moving and we're leading the way into the digital realm. And news gathering is still news gathering -- you still need to have a reporter and a camera go out there and get it. But what happens to the product once it is acquired and once it comes back, I think, will change dramatically, with not only your editing, with digital archiving and things like that.
