| Morning NewsCNN 20: Carol Lin on Reporting/Anchoring at CNNAired May 24, 2000 - 10:27 a.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Have a look at CNN's 20 years of news gathering. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: As we turn to CNN Financial News reporter, Bob Beard, at the Federal Reserve. Big day out there this morning, Bob. (END VIDEO CLIP) LIN: The great thing about being an anchor at CNN is: to be an anchor, you have to be a journalist; to be a journalist, you have to do some reporting. One of the best assignments I had, it was spending a month in Kosovo six weeks after the NATO forces had entered. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) LIN: Consider that not long ago, it was risky, even dangerous, for ethnic Albanians to just walk down this street. At virtually every intersection there was Serb police presence. (END VIDEO CLIP) LIN: Though we had talked about Kosovo for some nine months. We had no idea what the province was like. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) LIN: Carol Lin, CNN, Pristina, Kosovo. (END VIDEO CLIP) LIN: This is a network that responds like no other network to breaking news. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: I'm sorry, we've got to interrupt this, some breaking news right now -- Carol. LIN: CNN has learned that the body of John F. Kennedy Jr. has been found off the point of Martha's Vineyard. (END VIDEO CLIP) LIN: I distinctly remember the moment reporting it from the set. It was already a nation in mourning. CNN waits for double confirmation before we go for anything on the air and everyone at CNN, whether you're on the air, off the air, behind the camera, sitting in satellites hooking up the feed, everybody is a journalist.
