CNN.com Introduces New Features

Aired July 18, 2000 - 9:22 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Beginning today we're launching a new feature on our CNN Web site. A way for you to find out how CNN prime time programming and for you to hear from the anchors and hosts of those programs.

Leon Harris down at CNN Interactive.

Hey Leon.

LEON HARRIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Bill.

HEMMER: Double duty.

HARRIS: Yes, double duty, but I don't mind this kind of stuff.

HEMMER: Good deal.

HARRIS: You know that about me by now. Listen, you know, I've only been down here for a few minutes and already I've been able to figure this thing out. So if I can do it, look, even some sort of trained animal could figure this one out. You're going to love this, folks.

If you're watching a show and you want to find out what's coming up on another show or want to see what's already happened on another show, all you have to do is go to CNN.com. Our main Web page now features this one window you'll see here on the right hand side. It'll pop up every time you log on. And here right now we've got the window up that's got Larry King featured in it. And it tells you what has been on CNN and also what's to come on CNN.

Now, last night, Larry had a guest, Jack La Lanne, on the show. Now if you want to find out what happened on the show last night in case you missed it, all you do is you click on the video highlight. It may take a couple of extra seconds for this to load up. But you won't lose your entire screen. What should happen -- did we get it? there we go. What should happen here is you should get this window that pops up here on the side. It'll load up some -- well, some -- we can't -- I've got to tell you the truth. You can look at some promotions for every other show on the network.

But you will love it. But look, Jack La Lanne comes up, you get a video segment from last night's show, all right? I don't know if you can hear it, Bill, but you can see -- it gives you audio as well as the picture which is kind of helpful, all right?

Now after you finish with that, you can come back to this window and here is how you can get in touch with any of the shows on the network throughout the schedule of the day. You can just click in here, more programs, all the time slots come up. Pick your show, boom, there you go, you're in.

Now here's the other feature that we've got and you're going to get a real kick out of. Daily e-mail, how about getting some daily e- mail from Larry King? I wish I could get daily e-mail from Larry King. But folks, you at home can do it, it's very easy. You just click on that one window. You fill in the information here on the page. Put your e-mail information in here, how we can get a hold of you. And every day, Larry will send out an e-mail, I believe it comes out sometime in the afternoon, and you will get a notification from Larry about the show coming up or whatever message it is he wants to send you.

I should also advise you that eventually, every show on the network will have the same features. So you will be able to get information from every single anchor on CNN. So Bernie Shaw, don't run, you're going to have some more work to do.

Now on this page, you can also, if you want to get past -- if you want more than the anchors to send you an e-mail, how about if you have a particular topic that you're into, whether it's politics, whether it's health, whether it's science, sports, whatever? You'll notice here, to the left of the anchor e-mail boxes. You'll see here news letters. You can get news letters from every single other department we've got here practically at the entire company. You'll see breaking news, headline news, politics, legal watch. As a matter of fact, Greta and Roger for you there, space updates, Miles O'Brien, no doubt, and every other, probably, mix that you could think of, that you might want information from, you can get right here on the CNN Web page. So make sure you check it out, lots of information, plenty there to keep you busy -- Bill.

HEMMER: Good deal, thank you, Leon.
