CNN Interactive Offers Features on Election 2000

Aired August 1, 2000 - 9:23 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: And now, back to the topic of election 2000. You can find out an awful lot about the race on our Web site, CNN.com. To give us a tour on the latest features, let's check in with Rick Lockridge, who is at CNN.com this morning.

Rick, good morning.

RICK LOCKRIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning.

There is so much on that site, I couldn't begin to show you all of it, but we'll show you a couple of the important parts. The nice thing about navigating on the Web is you can be your own spin doctor. You can decide what you want to see. A good place to start is the CNN.com election 2000 page, which amazingly enough is cnn.com/election/2000.

And from there, you can go over here and look for in-depth coverage of the convention. You click on that link and the page it takes you to leaves no doubt that you're at the Republican National Convention page.

As you scroll down here, you have all sorts of things to look for. There's a television schedule over here on the left. You can scroll down and see what's going to be on CNN all day long. As you continue to go down, there's a Web cam you can click on. If we click on that, we see a live picture of the podium floor. You see they're getting set up for the day's activities ahead.

And continuing down the page, you have players and speakers. And, if you want a bio of somebody who's speaking tonight, you can click on that link and it'll give you a complete list of everybody who's going to be up tonight. If you wanted to find out something about people you haven't heard too much about in the past, perhaps Condoleezza Rice, you can click on her bio.

Also, General Schwarzkopf is going to be speaking tonight. So, you can go down there and find him on his link and read all about him.

And then, if you want to add your own voice to the many at the convention, there is a link for that. It's the voter's voice link, here on this very page, and you just click on that and it'll open up your e-mail account, and you can write a letter.

And, from what I'm hearing, not a whole lot of people have found that link yet. So, if you wanted to get your comments in now, there's a pretty good chance, they tell me, that your comments will be posted on the Web site and/or on television, sort of a high-tech letter-to- the-editor function on the Web page -- Daryn.

KAGAN: Rick Lockridge, thank you very much for that quick interactive tour. Appreciate it.
