CNN 20: Bosnian Leaders Charged, November 10, 1995

Aired November 16, 2000 - 10:53 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: A look at "CNN 20."

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, CNN CHIEF INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: I remember when Radovan Karadzic, the head of the Bosnian Serbs, and Ratko Mladic, his military commander, were charged for the second time with crimes against humanity, and I remember wondering whether they would ever be caught.

And now, we are five years on, and they haven't been caught, and people know where they are. The military, who is patrolling Bosnia, the international forces know where they are, and they still haven't been caught, and they are charged with some of the most heinous crimes in Europe since World War II.

One of those charges was because of what happened in Srebrenica in July of 1995. And to this day, there are still more than 7,000 people listed as missing and presumed dead just because they were men who were Muslims. And to this day, nobody has paid for that crime.
