George Washington University Medical Center Officials Report Secretary Cheney in Good Condition

Aired November 23, 2000 - 10:51 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, with so much confusion as to who will be the next president of the United States, there is some good news for the Cheney family on this Thanksgiving Day.

CNN's Eileen O'Connor standing by in Washington with that -- Eileen.

EILEEN O'CONNOR, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, I just got the updated report, a readout of something that is going to be released in written form in just a few moments. Basically, officials here at George Washington University Medical Center are saying that Secretary Cheney is in good condition. He was examined by his doctors this morning. And his doctors say he looks great. That's according to his cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner. They say, if things stay on track, he could be released as early as tomorrow morning.

Also, they say that he is having turkey and all the trimmings with his family, wife, Lynne; his daughter, Liz; her husband, Rob Harry; and their three granddaughters; also, Lynne Cheney has been working with the hospital staff and Secretary Cheney. They both say that they would like everyone to know the Cheney family appreciates all of the well-wishes of the American people, and that is really the latest news. Good news for the Cheney family -- Carol.

LIN: All right, sounds good. Thanks so much, Eileen,
