Post-Election Saga Wearing Thin on Many Americans

Aired November 29, 2000 - 9:58 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Well, the post-election saga is wearing thin on many Americans.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Absolutely. A lot of people are saying enough already, and Al Gore should bow out now. Others, though, pressuring him to fight on.

CNN's Anne McDermott has reaction from the West Coast.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANNE MCDERMOTT, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Waiting for a president: it can get tiresome, not for him, but for people watching him and his colleagues.

This visitor to the L.A. Zoo, for example, a retired Bush supporter, says enough is enough.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If they're going to recount three counties, they should recount the whole state. If they're going to recount the whole state, do it, and quit talking about it.

MCDERMOTT: They haven't quit talking about it at Casanova's beauty salon, but these Gore supporters are getting tired of waiting, as well.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We need a president, and need it now.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: They're being so selfish.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes, they're being selfish

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Stop being so selfish, both of you guys, and let's go on.

MCDERMOTT: Across town at the famous Mann's Chinese Theatre, another Gore supporter, Tonya Claxton (ph), of Oregon, says that's it.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think Gore should concede. I think it's obvious he's lost.

MCDERMOTT: But another Democrat, Duane Richardson (ph), who makes deliveries to gas stations says hold on.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: For one, what's the rush? What is the rush?

MCDERMOTT: Nearby, a Marilyn Monroe impersonator wonders the same thing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's definitely something that's going to go down in history. People will definitely remember this election.

MCDERMOTT: Well, even these Brazilian newlyweds agree with that. They also agree it's nice to know America isn't perfect.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: In Brazil, people think that, Oh, they are America, they have everything perfect, but now say: Oh, they have problems, too.

MCDERMOTT: Then, they continued on with their honeymoon in America.

Anne McDermott, CNN, Los Angeles.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

KAGAN: Very interesting, there.
