| Morning NewsWinter Arrives Early in AtlantaAired December 19, 2000 - 11:05 a.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: What makes for a travel hassle makes for a fun day for kids. No school here in the Southeast, at least many parts of it. Let's check in with our Brian Cabell, who is trying to brave it and be warm outdoors in Atlanta -- Brian. BRIAN CABELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Daryn. The weather conditions here are changing literally by the half hour. Just about a half hour ago, we have some snow flurries here. Now we've got the sun trying to break through, some blue sky. But it is still freezing, and the main concern here is on the roadways, namely ice. The roadways are drying up somewhat. But like this overpass behind me here, it is still icy up there. There is a concern for black ice throughout the afternoon on into the evening hours. Indeed there have been a number of accidents, scores of accidents, throughout the morning hours here in Atlanta. Now, 40 trucks are out there with salting equipment, and also sanding equipment. They are trying to do their best. But all they can do is hit the expressways, they really can't hit the secondary roads all that well. Which is good news for the children of Atlanta. They don't have to go to school today. School was called off in about 50 counties of Northern Georgia today. And considering that it is going to get colder and icier tomorrow, in all likelihood, there probably will not be any school, again, tomorrow. So it is a frigid day, it is a dangerous day. Right now, the sun is trying to break through. But last we heard, 26 degrees with a wind chill factor in the single digits, probably going down to around zero tonight. So it be a rather difficult night and probably, again, a difficult morning tomorrow. Winter has arrived early here in Atlanta -- Daryn. KAGAN: Brian Cabell, thank you very much.
