(CNN) -- Snaking through farmlands and cities, scenic rivers run wild through miles of the southeastern United States. Churning and twisting, they travel through the wilderness, wander in and out backyards and meander quietly under bridges.
Many of these rivers are more than scenic diversions from urban life. For outdoor enthusiasts, they are the center of the action.
The Nantahala, Chattooga and Chattahoochee Rivers are three of the region's best spots for outdoor sports, offering everything from white water kayaking and canoeing to fishing, camping and hiking.
