Prosecutors won't seek death penalty in Cosby case

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- The district attorney's office announced Friday that it won't seek the death penalty for the man accused of killing Ennis Cosby, the only son of entertainer Bill Cosby.
Mikail Markhasev faces charges of murder with special circumstances and attempted robbery. Public defenders entered a not guilty plea on his behalf May 13.
Prosecutors made Friday's announcement at a court hearing for Markhasev, who has been held without bail since his March 12 arrest.
Ennis Cosby, 27, was shot to death January 16 while changing a flat tire on his Mercedes, which was parked on a freeway frontage road in an exclusive Los Angeles area.
Police arrested Markhasev following a tip from the National Enquirer, which had offered a $100,000 reward. Robbery was believed to be the motive for Cosby's slaying, police said at the time of the arrest.
