WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A parents group is concerned about the impact on children of toys with increasingly violent themes.

The Lion and Lamb Project on Monday put out a third annual list of toys it thinks promote the most violence. Executive Director Daphne White told reporters she has never seen such a "blood-splattered" theme, and that the toys are far too realistic for younger children.

White said that some of the graphic portrayals of blood are simply in poor taste, but other toys encourage simulated violence that children may fail to distinguish from reality.

One toy gun, called "Laser Challenge V2," is marketed for children as young as age 8. To play the game, one child shoots the other in the chest, using a laser light beam on the gun to target the other child who wears a special vest that records a hit.

"You would think that after so many children have been shot running around the streets with real guns, that they wouldn't make things like this anymore," White said.

The group is trying to promote interesting, non-violent toys for children, as well as continuing a campaign to educate parents about the potential impact of violent toys on their children's behavior.

Toys which promote fun and creativity are recommended

White called for a national initiative to collect 10,000 violent toys by next summer to keep them out of children's hands.

Responding to a question about typically rough-and-tumble toys for young boys, White said, "I don't think there's anything unboylike" about non-violent alternatives, at a time she said the real world is trying to move away from violence and toward negotiated solutions.
