Wild monkey finds friendship with fowl
Web posted at: 3:05 p.m. EST (2005 GMT) YUANLIN, Taiwan (CNN) -- An unusual friendship has blossomed on a farm in central Taiwan, where a wild monkey and a barnyard chicken have become inseparable. Hsiao-hua, an indigenous monkey of Taiwan, was caught by a farmer a few months ago, after she indulged herself on his corn crop. The farmer became attached to the monkey and kept her with his chickens at the farm. Far from becoming disheartened at being cooped up with the chickens, the 3-year-old monkey adapted quickly to her new companions. Hsiao-hua's feelings were not always reciprocated by the fowl, most of which shied away from the monkey's tendency to scoop them up lovingly in her arms.
One chicken named CoCo, however, revels in the attention and is willing to be carried everywhere by the monkey. Hsiao-hua becomes angry if anyone tries to separate her from CoCo. The chicken gets a breather from Hsiao-hua's affections only when the monkey eats or answers the call of nature.
