ROME (CNN) -- A ceremony Sunday in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome will elevate to sainthood a German-born Jew who converted to Catholicism.

Controversy over the canonization of Edith Stein, an Orthodox Jew who became a Roman Catholic nun, comes as Pope John Paul II tries to move the Vatican toward reconciliation with Jews.

CNN's Rome Bureau Chief Gayle Young has this report on the dispute.
