GOP Rep. Mary Miller will win her party’s nomination in Illinois’ 15th Congressional District, CNN projects.
Miller, a controversial first-term lawmaker, voted to object to the 2020 Electoral College results in Pennsylvania and Arizona and received former President Trump’s endorsement despite pushback from House GOP leadership.
She defeated her colleague Rep. Rodney Davis, a five-term lawmaker who was backed by many local elected officials and who didn’t object to counting the 2020 Electoral College votes.
Miller, in a speech alongside the former President over the weekend, declared the Supreme Court's Roe ruling a "victory for White life." (A spokesperson claimed she had misspoken and meant to say, "right to life.")
Miller and Davis were competing in an incumbent vs. incumbent primary, both choosing to run in the new concave downstate 15th Congressional District. The new district is based around the Springfield suburbs and includes portions of each of the member’s current districts. Miller does not live in the new district, but chose to challenge Davis rather than GOP Rep. Mike Bost.
Davis was seen as a conservative, but one with more of an institutionalist approach than Miller.
